Smash Music: The Callback (S01E02)

.. and here's the featured music for Smash's Episode 2 entitled The Callback. Enjoy!

Call Me
I always think that this Blondie tune needs a certain level of punch and grit to work. But while Katharine McPhee's version sounds a little vanilla - that clear tone to her voice is just too nice - for my liking, the verses are actually kind of pretty. 7/10

Crazy Dreams
Wow. I like me some Carrie Underwood, but I somehow think that this arrangement and version is actually much better than the original. The uptempo country/pop complete with banjo and fiddle makes the song joyful, but how the show re-arranged this with a certain touch of melancholy is actually kind of impressive. Megan Hilty sounds lovely. 8/10

The 20th Century Fox Mambo
This one is absolutely stunning. Original songs always get a bit of a bonus in my book and the writing down to the production of the this tune is pretty stellar. Even Katharine McPhee vocals are spot on. Oh, and yes, the choreography of the actual number is impressive and McPhee is quite the dancer. Who knew? 9/10

Smash Music: Pilot (S01E01)

I'm not sure if I'll be posting this weekly just because I still don't have a constant contributor/source of songs from this show unlike Glee. I'll do my best to somehow find a way on how to work around this, but for the meantime enjoy the Pilot Episode Music.

Beautiful
I love how restrained this version is and how subtle some of the notes with terrific choice of vocal inflections. Katharine McPhee just didn't go all out especially towards the end and that's what I appreciate about this version. Not so much of the vocal theatrics, but the feeling. 8/10

National Pastime
This song has really grown on me. I enjoy that there's character to this tune and it's undeniably Marilyn Monroe, thanks to Megan Hilty's solid vocal performance.7/10

Let Me Be Your Star
Wow. This song blew me away. Seriously. Both Katharine and Megan gave brilliant vocals. The orchestration was outstanding, which sounds every bit Broadway. Katharine McPhee has a modern R&B almost pop flair in her phrasing, but that somehow worked in this song. Amazing. 10/10

Smash Season 1: Touch Preview

It's finally here! Smash will premiere tomorrow with it's pilot, which NBC already released via iTunes a couple of weeks ago, and here's a little sneak peek of a Katharine McPhee performance of Touch, which Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic wrote. The song is a little cheesy, but it's catchy! Enjoy!

Smash: Extended Preview

In less than two months, the new NBC drama/musical, Smash, will premiere featuring American Idol Season 5 runner-up, Katharine McPhee.

I know that I'm now beginning to sound like a broken record, but this new Smash extended preview just made me want to fast forward to February! Seriously. This show looks FANTASTIC! Really hoping that this works out because it's a very good alternative for Glee. Just saying. Oh, and the production looks phenomenal. Plus, Steven Spielberg! Need I say more?

Music Video: Beautiful - Katharine McPhee (SMASH TV Series)

.. and NBC is now going all out for their new musical series, SMASH, which will debut February 6, 2012. Aside from the fact that I'm into TV musicals like Glee or anything that has music in it on television- you know what I'm pertaining to - this series also stars Katharine McPhee, American Idol Season 5 Runner-up.

It's common knowledge to everyone - or maybe to just a few people - that I adore Katharine with a passion. I've been rooting for her since the auditions of Season 5 and to actually see her get a gig this big and something that's an uncharted territory for an Idol alumna, I'm quite excited. She tried so hard to make a career after American Idol - with her two albums (one of which I thought was awesome) and a couple of movies under her belt - and a starring role about an aspiring actress makes me all giddy. I hope this is it for her! Oh, and she looks unbelievably gorgeous. Just saying.

Smash: Official Trailer

Goosebumps!! This 5-minute trailer looks unbelievably good. NBC is absolutely on a roll with The Voice and The Sing-Off, and now this! I just hope it is what it appears to be: a show about a musical that just happens to include musical performances. It’ll be extremely disappointing if they go the Glee route, adding music for the sake of adding music, thus making the plot the third most important thing about the show - at best.

Katharine McPhee looks absolutely phenomenal and this could be the role that makes her a bonified star. I seriously enjoyed the clip of her singing Beautiful when I first saw it, but the way it’s included in the trailer gave me goosebumps. Seriously. Plus, that singoff with Megan Hilty’s character, Katharine held her own. Good job!!

Oh, and this post officially makes Smash part of this blog - you know, when I started doing "Smash:" on the title of my posts. Haha.

NBC's new series "Smash" to star Katharine McPhee

Yes, another series will be added to this blog!! Katharine McPhee's debut series, Smash, will air on NBC this coming mid-season and the network's hit reality singing competition, The Voice, will be the lead in show of this new series. Very interesting no?

Based on an idea by executive producer Steven Spielberg, Smash, is a musical drama that celebrates the beauty and heartbreak of the Broadway theater as it follows a cross-section of dreamers and schemers who all have one common desire - to be a "Smash". It's more like a show about producing a Broadway show based on the life of Marilyn Monroe.

Among the characters in the drama are Christian Borle (Legally Blonde: The Musical) as a Broadway composer, Debra Messing (Will & Grace) as a lyricist, Anjelica Huston (Prizzi's Honor) as a producer, and Katharine McPhee (American Idol Runner-up) and Megan Hilty (9 to 5: The Musical) as dueling divas.

Obviously, I'm a HUGE Katharine McPhee fan and to see her in a series as big as this makes me all giddy. I heard some rave reviews about Katharine’s role in the pilot and I just hope that this will be the big break she deserves. I mean, this appears to be right where she belongs. She’s a beautiful girl with TV charisma, and I think she could find a lot of success in this medium. Besides, I like the premise of the show and the concept could be intriguing on its own. Plus, there are very respectable names involved. Could she be American Idol's next Jennifer Hudson? Let's see..
