Hmm. I'm kind of on the fence with this song. I think it's catchy and the acoustic version is so Jason Mraz-y. But, if I'm being honest, the first time I heard this track I said that this can't be seriously in his album because it reminded me so much of that hi ho hi ho song by the seven dwarfs. Haha. Although after a few subsequent listen, I kind of warmed up to it. It is very different from the usual Archuleta stuff, which is a good thing. Also, I think it's very cleverly written, both as a metaphor and just as a song - word choice, syntax rhythm, consistency in theme. That was my first impression - that it was very clean, very simple, and very well-written song. Fun, catchy and it felt like a little roller coaster of a song. Enjoy!

I am impressed. Very playful and different.
You're right! It's different and It's good. The song was written by David and his guitarist. And is one of his favorites from the album.
It's so fresh and fun. I love it :)
Great feel good kind of song! I anticipate an amazing 3rd album coming from this very talented singer/songwriter!
I love his song! It describes perfectly David life...like a rollar coaster. He wrote 10 of the 12 songs on his new album this time! I anticipate that The Other Side Of Down is going to do very well. I am looking forward to all of Davids music on this album. It drops Oct 5th.
I enjoyed the feel of the song upon first listen, light, fun, and quirky. After listening to David explain how the song came about and the thoughts or dreams that inspired it, I read the lyrics and there is much more depth to it than meets the eye and it's stuck in my head.
I guess you are one of victims of Idol machine that manipulated the image of Archuleta as a balladeer. After the idol, his fans have found out his talent is much more than what idol showed. His book, Chords of Strength tells some of behind the scene stories that are intriguing. David is a fun loving, quirky, dorky, smart, and positive guy, and Elevator shows his quirky and fun character. Rumors are that Jive wanted Something 'bout love for the first single, but David wanted Elevator. Now, the two songs are on the radio and it might be a good thing to draw different listeners and more interest in his album.
I love this song. This song make me dance in my chair and move my head everytime I listen to it. It's so catchy. Can't wait for the album. I love everything I've heard so far.
Another bomb.
Another hit song!
First time I heard this I thought it was just a fun song, but the more I listened to it, I realized there was much more to it! Different levels of meaning....catchy tune....well sung...I like it alot!
David is proving that his interest in music goes beyond the ballad( which may I say he is killer at)and wants to do types of music he enjoys. Lots of surprises on The Other Side Of Down...dropping Oct 5th...can't wait
There is much more to David than non fans realize. He's not just some guy from american idol. He is smart, quirky, a great songwriter, talented singer, he's charitable, dorky, fun, and he has the ability to connect with a song like no other and convey to whomever's listening exactly what he's feeling when he is singing it. He is truly amazing, and I can't wait to hear this whole album. He is constantly blowing me away. :)
you got it right! cleverly written.
I love the song. We need more positive songs and positive outlook on life. David is a sweet, charming and very, very, talented guy and has grown leaps and bounds since Idol. I love the line "It's the butterflies that keeps you feeling so live, so live, you have to get back that high!!"
This album, will not only have depth and substance, but it will make you feel....something lacking in our music today!!! I love "Elevator"! It goes way beyond the quirkiness...to quality! David has a heart like no other, and it will be coming out in the music that he writes! I doubt that we hear too many ballads on this album! David is young, loves music of all kinds, and will reflect all kinds of music in his songs as well. He will show us, that you can create an upbeat, popular song with a great message, just as easy as creating one with bad messages. Go beyond what meets the eye in his songs, because he will be sharing his heart and make you feel good!!
At first listen this is very different than what we're hearing on radio now so I'm not convinced that it will get airplay. Having said that the dang thing is a brain worm and I can't get it out of my head. I hope for the best for this guy as he is a sweetheart and extremely talented.
FYI...it's already getting airplay. Djs love it. :)
I love the multiple meanings in this song. Indeed, it is very well written. It gets stuck in the brain, tho. I have heard .."Elevator goes Up, Elevator goes down.." for the last 3 mornings when I woke up!
I love this song.
This song needs a few listens to really "get it" I'm not over the top about it, but it does get stuck in your head. He seems to have a decent amount of fans since his idols days...good luck Archie!
Elevator is a fun song...can't wait to hear the rest of TOSOD!
I agree with the observations that there are several layers of meaning to this song. Deep, meaningful and still fun and light all at the same time - that sums up David Archuleta perfectly!
I love those crazy little high notes too - they add so much character and fun to the song.
LUV Elevator cuz it's fun and quirky but also has GREAT lyrics! It really showcases David's musical TALENT! And...I LUV his vocal range!
LOL You must follow @DavidArchie He actually tweeted "Hi Ho Hi Ho..." not too long ago! I liked the way you thoughtfully listened to Elevator and "worked" through your review. I actually love the song for it's simple, quirky, fun, and catchy nature on the outside, along with it's metaphorical depth, great rhythm, and wonderful layered harmonies beneath the surface!!
It's a fun positive song and it's completely "grabbed" me in a "Soul Sister-kind-of-way." I really hope to hear it played on the airwaves a lot because it's the great kind of song that's so much lacking on radio right now. Either way, I'll be loving that "endless ride" while I just go with the flow! ;)
*BTW~ I can't seem to get the 'music bar' to work for me. Maybe just my computer? Thanks
This little beauty of a song has continued to make me smile! Just thinking about the chance to see/hear David perform it will bring me even more joy! Come on TOUR!
Fantastique.
It took a couple listens for me too, but then I just got hooked on it. Really catchy, and yeah, different vibe for him.
i think we may see a different side of david w/ this album, maybe a bit sassy?? I like it.
Elevator is a GREAT song! Lyrics are catchy and quirky! I just love the song snippets that David has been sharing via his website! The album sounds like it will have a cool vibe to it! Can't wait for it's release on 10/5!
Addictive! Uh, in a good way! Great job David and Mike.
I adore Elevator! I've liked it from the first time I heard it and now I love the song. Fun, quirky, smart and meaningful and definitely a catchy song! David is an incredibly versatile and gifted artist. His new album has some fantastic songs on it (just from hearing the snippets that David has shared with us) and the few I have heard. He's one amazing singer/songwriter and I love what I hear from David. In fact I make his music a part of my daily routine, love it. His song Elevator never fails to make me feel good!
I kind of scratched my head at first listen, too, but since then I can't get enough of it. Once you hear it you can't get it out of your head. Makes you want to dance and bop around. Love it!
I agree with you except for the comment that it is good it is different from all the other how did you put it..? the usual Archuleta stuff" I love everything that David has ever sung. He is an amazing singer/songwriter.
David has stated in several interviews that "The Other Side of Down" will reflect more of his taste and sensibility than his freshman album did. The label actually allowed 10 songs written by David on the current album. That is a smart move on their part, since some of David's best songs like "Zero Gravity," "Somebody Out There," and "Works for Me" (all co-written by David), were relegated to bonus tracks on the first album, which was a BIG mistake on Jive's part since they were superior to some of the songs that actually made the CD.
Hearing a song like this from David doesn't surprise me. I knew he was going to spread his wings on the recordings over time. He is so talented that his voice can lend itself to almost any kind of singing, from tearful love balads to upbeat tempo. Can't wait til the new album comes out so I can hear all the songs.
It's a really upbeat song, and I love it!
