The Voice Australia 4: Finale

I've been saying this over and over again, but The Voice Australia Season 4 has been a fantastic show to cover this year. It was diverse with a lot of awesome artists providing performances. And yes, I couldn't be happier with the remaining four (4) finalists.

Sure, the performances in this Finale weren't as showstopping as some of their previous performances and the original songs were relatively underwhelming than, say, X Factor's Original songs, but I digress.

On with the final review for the season!

SOLOS

04. Liam Maihi
Fix You
[TEAM RICKY]
He started off really well with a good amount of finesse and vocal control, but things just went downhill as soon as the song picked up. His voice was swallowed by the band and his pitch went all over the place. Not sure if he can't hear himself, but this was unfortunate. It wasn't terrible, but it's not as good as his previous performances. 6.5

03. Nathan Hawes
Don't Think Twice, It's Alright
[TEAM MADDEN]
This was more like the same from Nathan - subtle and understated. The only problem was that he looked disconnected and there was a moment where his eyes wandered around and just lost focus. I don't know what happened exactly, but that made the performance a little disjointed. 7

02. Joe Moore
Scars
[TEAM MADDEN]
As I've said before, Joe is a reliable singer. I never felt uncomfortable with him hitting bad notes and he proved that again with Scars. I thought he connected really well with the song and his vocals were on point. It's not the most exciting, but I digress. 8

01. Ellie Drennan
Nothing Compares 2 U
[TEAM JESSIE]
Her lovely tone was put to good use with this song choice. How she transitioned her vocals were quite masterful and that staging was fabulous. I didn't expect that. 8

ELIMINATED
Nathan Hawes (3rd Place)
Liam Maihi (4th Place)

ORIGINAL SONG

02. Ellie Drennan
Ghost
[TEAM JESSIE]
It's a shame that Ellie had to work with a song that's slightly hook-free. There's no strong melody to the song and while her vocals were mostly spot on, the structure of Ghost was just underwhelming. I don't know. It just didn't work for me. 6.5

01. Joe Moore
Invincible
[TEAM MADDEN]
This was a lot more palatable, but for an Australian reality singing show - who's been churning out fantastic original songs - this was just decent. It sounded anthemic and his voice fit the song like a glove. Not sure if this will be big, but it's good enough. 7.5

THE VOICE AUSTRALIA 4 WINNER IS..
ELLIE DRENNAN
