The Voice 3: Battle Rounds Part 1

Hmm. Battle Rounds or the start of the decline of The Voice's ratings - based on their two previous seasons. Haha. And the best way to make things interesting? Add a STEAL. Judges/Mentors can now steal a singer who got eliminated from the Battle Rounds - a nice touch as I hated how they pitted the good singers against each other.

Now, as for the narrative of this whole episode: The one whose weaknesses are focused on in the rehearsals wins. Haha. To be honest, I agreed, more or less, with all the judge decisions tonight, even including the people who got stolen. So, there's that.

Let's get on with the Battle Rounds!

Terry McDermott VS Casey Meussigman

While Casey surprisingly held his own against Terry - I honestly didn't care for his voice during his blind audition - I still prefer Terry as I find his voice more versatile. Casey has a good solid voice though, but not enough for me to care.

I agree with Cee Lo, the song was fairly stylized that it did Collin zero favors and seemed to cater more to Bryan's voice. That said, I think Bryan performed this with way better dynamics as Collin's vocals seemed a little tentative.

Eh. Not a fan of either of these two - neither of them were amazing - but I somehow liked Diego's voice better. JR, I think, has better control of his voice but I didn't think he connected well with the song. Smiling? Really?

The battle of the weird names! Haha. I enjoyed De'Borah's blind audition, but she was just decent here. Good thing, Nelly's voice irked me too much in this song and his falsetto sounded bad. Plus, De'Borah has a more rich tone, which I like.

Gracia Harrison VS 2 Steel Girls

Two scenarios: One, if the blond was solo, this would have been a close call. Second, if Gracia got to yodel she would've slam dunked that one in my eyes. In this battle, Gracia won based solely on a slightly better voice. That's all.

Amanda Brown VS Trevon Hunt

Wow. Who knew Amanda actually has a voice that can stand against Trevon? Just like Cee Lo, I didn't think Amanda was good enough to beat Trevon. Though both got a too shouty towards the end, I find their "battle" a little interesting than usual. It sounded like a diva off more than anything. Haha. I think Amanda was better as it was less shrieky, but at least the steal proved to be a good addition to the show.
