American Idol 10: Top 9 Theme

It looks like Nigel Lythgoe has officially abandoned the idea of a decade themes instead of genres. I'm not against it, I just wonder what made him change his mind. Haha. Anyway, this week's theme will be the very broad - and somewhat silly - Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. The iconic lead guitarist, Jeff Beck, will accompany the contestants - maybe with Jimmy Iovine again?

This is obviously a wide open theme with thousands of songs to pick from - this even encompasses most of the Motown stars - yet, the show probably only cleared about 50 songs total. So, there lies the problem. I mean, this theme has been done before - American Idol Season 7 Top 4 - and all we got were lame song choices from David Cook, David Archuleta, Syesha Mercado and Jason Castro. Stand By Me? I Shot The Sheriff? Love Me Tender? Really?

Themes that are too broad aren’t always good. But, I'll keep an open mind.

Performers on results show: Constantine Maroulis (Not excited. AT ALL)
