The Voice 5: The Knockouts Part 2

This is more like it! Yesterday's performances were good, but this one's better! A LOT BETTER! I mean, with people like Preston Pohl, Caroline Pennel, Matthew Schuler, Will Champlin and others, where could you go wrong?

I like that this episode didn't have much train wrecks unlike yesterday and most of them delivered solid to great performances. I can't wait for the live shows!

Here we go!

TEAM ADAM

Lina Gaudenzi
I'd Rather Go Blind
Not a fan of her vibrato. She's not a bad singer, but she's rather bland. Haha. Got it? 5

Preston Pohl
No Woman No Cry
The rasp and grit in his voice was already enough to beat Lina on this round. Add to that the fact that his vocals were spot on and suited perfectly with his song choice. It's rare to hear song choices like these, but it's a pleasant surprise. 8

EG Daily
I Can't Make You Love Me
There's a scratchiness in her voice that's quite lovely, but this was just a total snoozer. I don't know. This just didn't excite me. Plus, her last couple of notes were terrible. 6

Ray Boudreaux
Hard To Handle
FANTASTIC TONE! Sure, he didn't try much to make his performance a little less karaoke, but he has this soulful raspy tone that's hard to ignore. I wonder though if he could cover something more current. 7

Anthony Paul
The Other Side
He had moments, but his vocals were mostly uneven. His falsetto was weak, his transitions somehow didn't work, and he was straining on his high notes. Maybe a different song? 6.5

Jacquie Lee
Stompa
Wait, where did she come from? Haha. While I had problems with some of her shrill notes, this was pretty awesome. Her stage presence was great, her pitch was on point, and she looked like a younger sister of Selena Gomez - meaning, very marketable artist. Very nice. 7.5

Stephanie Anne Johnson
Don't Know Why
Whoa. Stephanie's proving to be a very versatile vocalist from Black Horse to Done. and now something from Norah Jones. Her vocals weren't perfect, but she had vocal dynamics that were spectacular. I initially wasn't a fan, but she's now on my radar. 7.5

Tamara Chauniece
No One
The arrangement was a little odd, but I thought she delivered a fresh take on this overdone song. Not sure if I enjoyed her vocal stylings on this specific song choice, but I digress. Her vocals, in itself, was spot on. 7

James Wolpert
More Than A Feeling
James has a great powerful instrument and he showcased it wonderfully with this song choice. His vocal range was insane and I couldn't wait to hear more from him. His pitch was a bit shaky at the beginning, but that's me nitpicking. 7

Juhi
Heard It Through The Grapevine
Her voice has a lot of character that's pretty interesting. I love how she made the song sound fresh with her vocal tone and inflections that were brilliant. Not sure of the squeaky quality of her voice, but whatever. 7

Austin Jenckes
I'll Be
Another overdone song choice! Why? He has a nice gritty tone, but that's about it. I could just go in a local bar and hear someone just like him. Sorry. 6

Brandon Chase
Even If It Breaks Your Heart
He has a great country sound albeit very generic. I don't know. Maybe he won by default because he's obviously more marketable than Austin. 6.5

Caroline Pennell
The Way I Am
I initially didn't like her song choice as it somehow seemed redundant. Haha. But to be perfectly honest, the way Caroline phrased her words and added her own inflection to this song made me a serious fan. I'd probably put her as one of my favorites this season. For a quirky singer, she's got a solid and powerful voice. 8

George Horga Jr
Beacause Of You
Too bad he got pitted against Caroline. George may not have the best set of pipes this season, but he has so much potential with his charming presence that's hard not to notice. He has quite a lovely tone, and he takes risk with his vocal choices. 7

Matthew Schuler
Cosmic Love
Strong vocals. Impeccable range. Brilliant song choice. Enough said. 8.5

Will Champlin
When I Was Your Man
He's getting better and better no? Will just gave a pretty stellar version of this Bruno Mars' song with fantastic runs, solid falsetto, and an emotional connection to the song. Very nice. 8

Aww Stephanie... it's so weird being cut by your original coach, then cut by the coach who used the steal on you, only to be stolen back by her original coach. Haha!
