American Idol: Who Sang It Better - Elvis Presely Face-Off!

So, is this now the new trend this season? Recycling themes! Haha. Well, since they reprise the theme from Season 5 this time. I've decided to have an Elvis Presley Face-Off - just like The Beatles Face-off a few days ago. This will be as interesting.

Featured Artist: Elvis Presley

In the strongest possible terms, the American Idol judges’ panel has insisted that “song choice, song choice, song choice” is the most critical decision a contestant can make. And week after week, most Idol hopefuls seem to get it completely wrong, and it could be due to the fact that they keep picking the same old overplayed songs.

Now, after numbing our ears year after year with the same predictable tunes, I think it's time to embrace that sad fact and just decide, which had the best version of the songs.

Videos and Poll after the jump!!

Katharine McPhee (Season 5)

Andrew Garcia (Season 9)

Taylor Hicks (Season 5)

Michael Lynche (Season 9)

Chris Daughtry (Season 5)

I don't know if it's just because Season 9 is the current one, but I think most of the Season 9 contestants took it with them.

Maybe it's the band, bigger stage, better lights, and all the new stuff Idols' got over the years, but some of the older performances just look... well, karaoke.

But I did like Taylor Hicks' "In the Ghetto" and Katharine McPhee's "Hound Dog" better than Michael Lynch and Andrew Garcia's versions.

That's not saying much, though.

Maybe because before Season 7, the show is more of a singing competition than a song arrangement competition. Haha.

For some weird reason, after they allowed instruments since Season 7, singing now is not enough anymore, which makes some contestants unable to play any in a disadvantage. For 2 straight years (and probably this year), winners are instrument players. :)

Well the only ones left who haven't played an instrument on that stage are Siobhan and Aaron Kelly. I can't see either of them winning.

exactly. i'm hoping though that after this year. some pure vocalists can win the show again. i have nothing against people with instruments but i REALLY want variety now.
